Receiving & Inspection

Upon receiving your louver shipment, inspect the crates carefully. If there is visible damage, contact the freight company immediately so a freight claim can be filed if necessary. Caution should be used when removing the louvers from the crates. Once uncrated, the louvers should be checked for proper size, finish, frame style, screen, actuators and overall appearance. Any discrepancies should be reported to DOWCO immediately.

Storage

All louvers should be stored in crates in a dry location until time of installation. Care should be taken to insure damage does not occur to units while in storage.

Handling

  1. Remove the louvers from the shipping container and inspect for damage. Care must be taken handling a louver. Lift by the frame and not by the blade. Do not drop, drag, step on, or apply excessive force on louver.
  2. Inspect opening where louvers are to be installed. Opening should be 1/4" larger than overall dimensions plus any expansion spacing required.

Maintenance

In general, louvers require very little maintenance. All louvers should be checked and serviced on a regular schedule. Inspection intervals depend on the system usage and atmospheric conditions within the system. Louvers should be cleaned with a mild soap solution and fresh water rinse. In case of heavy grease, tar or oil build-up, some petrochemical solvent can be used. Read instructions carefully for recommended surface usage. Screen should be checked for particle build-up. Special attention should be given to fine mesh or intake applications.

Adjustable or operable louvers require more maintenance due to the additional moving parts. All fasteners, linkages, pins, shafts, and actuator connections should be checked for wear and proper alignment. Pivots, shafts, bearings, and other wear surfaces should be oiled with a light Moly-Lubricant.

Recommended Installation of Louvers

  1. The following details show typical, suggested installations for louvers in masonry and metal panel walls. Louvers must be installed in a perfectly plumb and square position. Be sure they are twist free with proper clearance to allow for blade, linkage, and operator movement. Louvers are installed within the opening using clip angles positioned on 18" to 24" centers.
  2. Clip angles with self tapping screws (2 ea. per clip), continuous angles, and extended sills are available as options. Wall trim, caulk, and any other fasteners are by others.
